Guest recovery: win back unhappy diners before you lose them

An unhappy guest rarely complains — they just never come back. Bentu hears from them before they walk out the door for good, and gives them a reason to return.

Free to start, and no credit card for the 30-day trial. We check every claim by hand, usually within 2–3 business days.

The math of a lost regular

One bad night costs more than one cover. Here is an example with round numbers; put in your own. A regular who comes twice a month and spends $40 a visit is worth $80 a month, or $960 a year (2 visits × $40 × 12 months). If they bring a friend on one of those visits each month, add $480, for $1,440 a year from one regular.

Now the cost of a second chance, in the same example: a 15% offer on one $40 visit is $6. Set that against what the regular brings in over a year. The formula to reuse is visits a month × average spend × 12, and it’s worth working out with your own numbers.

The catch is that a regular who has a bad night rarely says so. They won’t complain to the server. They won’t email you. They’ll simply stop showing up, and maybe tell a few friends why. The hard part has always been finding out in time.

How recovery offers work

You choose an offer once — 15% off the next visit, a free item, or your own — and how long it lasts. When a guest scans your Bentu QR code and says Meh, two things happen straight away. The feedback lands in your dashboard, while the guest may still be at the table. And the guest sees your offer, with their own code for next time.

No manager intervention required, no awkward confrontation, no waiting for a review to appear. The guest walks out with a reason to give you another chance instead of a grudge, and you know exactly what went wrong on table twelve.

If the guest has a Bentu account, you can also reply to them from your dashboard — a personal follow-up from the owner turns a recovered guest into a story they tell their friends.

Recovery beats damage control

Every recovered guest is a public one-star review that never got written, a regular who kept their habit, and a table of friends who heard “you won’t believe how they handled it” instead of “never going back.” Recovery offers come with the trial and Founding Member.

What a recovery looks like

  1. Step 1

A guest has a bad experience

They scan the QR code on the table, say Meh, and add a note: “burger was overcooked, waited 40 minutes.”

  2. Step 2

Bentu offers to make it right

The guest sees your recovery offer straight away, with their own code for their next visit. The feedback is in your dashboard the moment they send it.

  3. Step 3

    You get a second chance

The guest comes back to use the code. If they have a Bentu account, you reply personally. A lost regular becomes a loyal one.

Questions owners ask

What is a recovery offer?

A private make-it-right gesture — a discount or a little something on the house, with a code of its own — that a guest sees straight after saying Meh at a claimed business on Bentu.

Do I have to approve each offer manually?

No. You choose the offer and how long it lasts once, and each Meh visit gets its own code straight away, which is exactly when it matters most. You see every visit in your dashboard and can follow up personally.

Does this require any hardware or POS integration?

No. The QR code on the table is the entire setup. Bentu runs alongside whatever POS and reservation stack you already have.

What does a recovery offer cost me?

Only what you choose to give. You pick the offer, such as 15% off the next visit, a free item or your own, and how long each code lasts, from 7 to 90 days. Recovery offers come with the trial and Founding Member.
